In the death of our Lord Jesus Christ our judgment has been rendered, and in his resurrection, our glorification has been secured.
Christ Supreme To Us
The Lord Jesus Christ is the great unifying theme of the Word of God, not because He is a word among many, but because He is the only Word. Thus, He is supreme to us.
The Chief Thing
Calvin says that the chief thing of the gospel is that Christ is given to us and that in him is life.
(Titus Commentary. p. 286)
Apprehended By Christ
Thomas Boston (1676 – 1732) says: “When Christ apprehends a man by His Spirit, he is so drawn that he comes away to Christ with his whole heart: for true believing is believing with all the heart.”
(Human Nature in its Fourfold State, p. 283)
Three in One – One in Three
“I cannot think on the one without quickly being encircled by the splendor of the three; nor can I discern the three without being straightway carried back to the one.” Gregory of Nazianzus
Calvin admired this saying of Gregory’s and I confess I like it too (see Institutes I. 13. 17).
