Biblical Principles of True Worship

  1. All worship is to be directed to God alone and only through the mediation of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  2. All prayer in such worship must be made in the name of the Lord Jesus alone, with the help of the Holy Spirit, according to His Will, with all understanding, reverence, humility, fervency, love and perseverance in a known language.
  3. All reading of Holy Scripture is to be done with godly fear and reverence.
  4. All preaching of the Word is to be done with submission to God and in complete dependence upon God.
  5. All singing of hymns, songs and psalms is to be with grace in the heart and honor towards God, and any instruments accompanying this singing must contribute to holy praise and not detract from it.
  6. God is to be worshipped only in spirit and truth.  He is not to be neglected or forsaken in this worship.
  7. All public worship is to include the gathering together of all the believers on the Lord's Day (being Sunday) which must be kept as holy unto the Lord.
  8. All Christians must prepare themselves beforehand for this worship - they must be adequately rested and prepared.
  9. All Christians must cease from their own activities such as is common during the week and given themselves to rest and worship.
  10. All believers must love the Lord Jesus and know why they have gathered to meet with Him.

"The acceptable way of worshipping God is instituted by Himself, and is limited by His own revealed will, so that God may not be worshipped according to the imaginations and devices of men, or the suggestions of Satan, under any visible representation, or any other way not prescribed in the Holy Scriptures."
